Depression Is Not an Option

This post is part of an ongoing series titled Things That Have Improved Your Life.

In this series, I welcome readers of this blog to share an improvement they’ve made in their life. This improvement could be anything – from a new diet or exercise plan to a certain place visited or person they’ve met.

I then ask questions as to how their life has improved, and whether they would recommend others try to make this same thing possible in their own lives.

Today’s interview takes place with Michele Carvajal.

Michele explains how her life finally started to improve when she truly began to believe in herself for the 1st time.

Introduce Yourself

My name is Michele Carvajal (better known as MishiPcm) and I am half Colombian/ Guatemalan. I was born in Chicago.

I love to sing, do songwriting, work on my faith, and also workout!

What Improvement Have You Made to Your Life?

Both my physical and faith aspect has improved so much! Believing in myself more, and breaking the norms of society.

By that I mean loving myself for who I am, not hearing other people’s opinions towards my life goals, and especially getting healthy at the same time as getting slim. Avoiding junk food and replacing candy with fruits has been so refreshing! I broke out of my shell to try vegetarian recipes, and I loved it.

Another thing I can say I’ve improved is to be more straightforward and not let people walk all over me. People tend to try to shut others up, and literally use them so they can feel “powerful” in so many ways.

Besides that, I grew to be more forgiving, to say sorry to people that don’t even deserve it (yet they feel entitled to everything), and to forget. What I mean by that is if a certain someone tries to play the “victim” card, I learn to let it go, and literally laugh it off because I know that the problem is not me….it’s them.

I know my worth. I know who I am. And I know exactly where I belong. I am so blessed and thankful for all the changes in my life, but honestly, the best is yet to come.

Why Did You Decide to Improve Your Health and Faith?

I decided to improve my health and my faith because I fell into a stage of depression, and now I am getting rid of anxiety. I talk a lot about this in my blog because I feel like people out there need to hear it so the ones that go through this are aware that they are not alone.

Due to my depression, I ended up not doing well in my studies, got unhealthy to the point of being sick every month, was crying daily, and all because I was not believing in myself and hung out with people that made me think that way.

I had to get rid of the toxic environment that made me feel sad, depressed, and even angry. It got to the point where I found my goals and accomplishments in life meaningless. At one point I even thought “why am I even living?” – it really got bad!

I was raised in a Christian home, but at that point, I didn’t have a strong a faith as I do now. I found myself not going to church and doing things that made me feel even worse. The way that I was able to get rid of my condition was by working out, going back to church, starting songwriting, starting blogging, and most of all starting singing all over again.

I am a gospel singer (since I was little), and the person I look up to the most is Tori Kelly. Literally, her songs got me through a lot with Joann Rosario, and especially Jonathan Mcreynolds with the song “lovin’ me” which helped me realize that I was worth more than what any other person can possibly imagine.

I’m currently at a wonderful stage in my life where I can say that I am loved, unique, healthy, super talented, I love myself, and I have been blessed with so many things that I once considered non-important.

I am so thankful for the platform I have in the blogging world to show others that depression is no joke, and anxiety is an actual thing that really kicks in for some of us that got out of depression.

I get anxiety from time to time now (it used to be often), but I feel like it’s slowly starting to go away.

How Has Your Life Improved Since – Can You Give an Example?

Working-out, physical activity, blogging, and music have helped me to improve as a leader.

I’m currently a leader at a church and work in the music ministry.

In addition to this, I have created my own group called “The Truth” in which I am planning to go on tour next year to different churches, and make my own gospel album with other projects that I have in store!

Would You Recommend Other People Give This a Go? If So, How Should They Start?

I feel like people who struggle with depression or anxiety need to find something that they love to do.

For example, dancing, singing, playing an instrument – but the most important thing is to check your environment and the people you hang around with! Sometimes the problem is right there in front of our eyes, but we can’t see it till something makes us wake up, but at times, it’s too late.

Be around people that have travelled on the same road as you and combat it together! So many do not understand depression or anxiety and the only excuse they come up with is, “It’s going to be okay, and it will pass.”

That is not what we want to hear because it’s more than that! It is so much deeper and so many need to get educated in what the conditions really might be.

If anyone is reading this and struggling through this, just know that it is a rocky road but you need to keep pushing! Listen to encouraging music that will lift your spirit, get your mind busy, and take a break from the world. Rediscover yourself!

You are worth more than gold and your life has a purpose! If I could and still can then so can you!

Where Can We Find out More About You?

You can go to my website at and check out what I write there from time to time.

I have all my information linked to my blog in which the name Mishipcm is literally my username for all platforms on social media. I am planning on doing covers on YouTube, I give advice on my blog, and I even share reviews for free products that I get in.

If anyone is interested in knowing how to get products for free then that information can also be found over on my blog.

Anything Else You’d like to Share?

I would like to say that life is not easy, but we all have a purpose in this world.

Maybe there are days when we see everything as being so insignificant. But if you look closely, you will see that even an ant is such an amazing creation.

Speak positively when you wake up till you go to sleep. Give thanks of the air you breathe. Travel the world. Eat different things, and never forget that you have been gifted a life that you should not take for granted. So many forget that life is too short!

The way I go on about my day is to think of the many people that don’t have a home. A family. Are missing a body part due to an accident. Have no medication or food – yet they are still smiling and trying to survive.

Those people that I just mentioned are the ones I look up to the most. Because no matter what circumstance they might have…they’re still smiling!

If they can do it, if I can do it, then trust me… can you.

With that being said, God bless you all and always keep smiling!

Big thanks to Michele Carvajal for sharing her life improvement story!

My takeaway points:

  • Always believe in yourself.
  • Keep on pushing, even if what you’re going through is hard.
  • Never take your life for granted.
