From Illness to Total Health with one Major Shift

This post is part of an ongoing series titled Things That Have Improved Your Life.

In this series, I welcome readers of this blog to share an improvement they’ve made in their life. This improvement could be anything – from a new diet or exercise plan to a certain place visited or person they’ve met.

I then ask questions as to how their life has improved, and whether they would recommend others try to make this same thing possible in their own lives.

Today’s interview takes place with Erin Hollon.

Erin talks about how she learned to heal her body naturally and the profound effect this has had on her life as a whole.

I’m Erin Hollon, Founder of Ivy + Light, an online wellness center for people on a mission to create a life they love!

I was born & raised in the South, but I love living in Brooklyn, NY where each day is a chance to live a balanced, holistic life in the biggest city in America. This challenge inspires me to keep things simple. Focus on improving my life and helping others one day at a time.

What Improvement Have You Made to Your Life?

I like to think of life as a journey from one wonderful discovery to the next.

I began my jewellery business at a low point in my life, working through chronic health issues. As I learned how to heal my own body naturally, I discovered how completely my emotions and spirit were connected to my health. That realization totally opened my eyes to a plethora of natural healing methods that would ultimately improve my entire life, not just help me overcome a specific illness. Now I could look for the underlying cause of my physical symptoms and find the emotions, thoughts, and beliefs that were connected. Once I shifted my emotional and mental energy, my physical health started improving too!

My favorite methods for healing are using crystals, essential oils, and positive affirmations.

I often pair all three together, wearing my crystals and diffusing essential oils while meditating and repeating my affirmation. In this way, I am able to release emotions and beliefs and enhance the emotions I want to create in my life.

Why Did You Decide to Try Energy Healing in the First Place?

When I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism several years ago, I was really resistant to the idea of taking medication for the rest of my life. I was already on asthma and allergy meds and didn’t want to add one more thing to my daily regimen.

I found a doctor who used both standard and alternative methods who was happy to help me discover the underlying issue and try to taper off the meds. Every time I went to visit her she would ask me about my stress levels. I kept telling her I wasn’t stressed, I was just exhausted from this illness.

Finally one day it clicked. I WAS stress. In fact, I was a MESS! I had a job I hated, a failing marriage, and no outlet for my creativity.

At that moment I realized the stress, fear, and unhappiness were a huge contributing factor to my poor health. It was from this pivot point that I began researching alternative methods for reducing stress, rather than just “curing hypothyroidism.”

From here I discovered crystals such as Aquamarine and Sunstone, as well as Essential Oils for balancing hormones. When these vibrational healing tools started to work wonders, I decided to dedicate my life to understanding energy healing and sharing these tools and techniques with everyone.

How Has Your Life Improved Since – Can You Give an Example?

My physical health has been totally revolutionized. I now take NO meds, not because I don’t want to, but because I no longer need them. I don’t suffer from any of my long list of ailments. My weight is down to the lowest it’s been since I was a teen. My physical strength and stamina have improved, and I can exercise without getting short of breath.

Beyond this, the emotional, mental, and spiritual changes have been even more profound. I no longer suffer from anxiety or depression. I handle stressful situations much better. I am more patient, more joyful, and more focused on creating a wonderful life rather than waiting for the circumstances of life to make me happy.

Would You Recommend Other People Give This a Go? If So, How Should They Start?


The beauty of energy healing is that you can start wherever you are and there will be tools and methods that work for your particular situation. I would recommend doing some journaling first to get a clearer understanding of what emotions are the most troublesome for you. Doing this internal work will give you insight into the areas where physical pain may actually be a progression from your emotional pain.

Armed with this information, you can either research methods for releasing these emotions or talk to a natural life coach. Someone like myself, to get guidance on what methods may work best for your situation.

Anything Else You’d like to Share?

When I first began my journey into energy healing, I was a huge sceptic. I’m very scientifically minded by nature. The only way I was going to trust these methods was if I could understand them.

This scepticism led me on a journey into Quantum Physics, where I learned how energy and vibration really work. All of this research has really helped me to be able to teach and coach in a way that helps people understand how healing works. I truly believe that understanding is one of the most powerful tools we can use in any area of life!

    Hi Erin, I really enjoyed hearing about your journey to better health and am glad you are doing better. A few years ago, I started having seizures, and I think stress was largely to blame. Like you, I did not think I was stressed at the time, but looking back, I realize that all of the seizures took place during times when I was stressed and pushing myself too hard. Now I have (reluctantly) started taking medication, but I also think that taking active measures to take better care of myself emotionally and spiritually has accounted for a reduction in my seizures.

      Kate, that’s so wonderful to hear that you’ve been able to reduce your seizures! There are many times when medication is an important part of our health journeys, and it’s great that you didn’t just rely on the meds but also took this as a sign to make lifestyle changes. We really do have so much more control over our health than we often believe. So glad you’re doing better!
