It’s the things you do every day that are the most important to your life. After all, we are what we repeatedly do.
This is why it’s a wise idea to break your bad habits and replace them with good habits instead.
A book that I often recommend to people who’re looking to improve their lives is The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. It’s a fascinating book that really breaks down the reasons why people do what they do.
Above all, it shows you exactly how to create new habits and actually stick to them – something which we’ve all struggled with at one point or the other.
Something which you can do right now is watch the below video from Brett at The Art of Manliness. In this video, Brett breaks down the key points of changing habits and shows you exactly how habits are formed. This is all thanks to something called The Habit Loop, and it relies on a habit being made up of a cue, a routine, and a reward.
If you find this interesting then you should definitely check out the book I mentioned previously.
Remember the golden rule of habit change: Keep the cue and reward; change the routine.
Once again, here are the 5 steps mentioned in order to hack your habits.
1. Identify the routine you want to change
2. Identify the reward
3. Identify the cue
4. Create a plan to change your routine
5. Believe that change is possible
What habits would you like to change? Have you ever successfully changed a bad habit into a good one? Let me know in the comments section below – I look forward to reading them.
